THE PROJECT

The AoKas project is a youth sports outreach programme established in early 2018 by H/Art Academy Jiu Jitsu, with support from the International Jiu Jitsu Eucation Fund (IJEF) . Aokas currently partners with Non-Governmental Organisations that focus on empowering underprivileged and vulnerable children in and around the city of Phnom Penh. The project provides a weekly self-defense and sport Jiu Jitsu class to roughly 45 young boys and girls, broken down into 3 separate classes.

OUR GOAL

We believe that to have a social impact on a community, we must first start with the individual. Through the apprenticeship of Jiu Jitsu, the AoKas project aims to pass-on the philosophy that a great martial artist is one that has taken the steps to better him/herself as a human.

AoKas provides its participants with the necessary tools and skill sets to succeed both in life and at work, increasing the added value each individual brings to the table. Such skills include, problem solving, analytical thinking, learning to remain calm under pressure and communication. Whether these children train to be champions, or train because it is a positive outlet, they will be given all the skills and an opportunity to continously sharpen them.

Through our advanced athlete programme, we have also created a leadership programme for young children to help their peers. This programme adds further to the value each participant can bring to the table.

We believe that these skills are exactly what entrepreneurs need and what companies and employers look for in top level candidates.

OUR PARTNERS

Our partners play an important role in sustaining the AoKas Project. Through their support, we have been able to cover the basic initial starting costs, which includes providing training uniforms for most of the children, transportation to and from their communities for a set number of months, and of course paying sustainable and fair fees to our locally trained instructors. We’ve also been able to put in place fun and innovative strategies to help give young children an alternative path in life.

In an effort to grow the sport and build a strong future generation of athletes, H/Art Academy Jiu Jitsu has also partnered with the Jiu Jitsu Federation of Cambodia (JJFC) to select young athletes showing potential and motivation to be part of Cambodia’s national team.

We are always looking for individuals and companies who would like to be part of this initiative and help us make a difference. If you’d like to donate and support, contact us!
